PTA Program Descriptions & Volunteer Opportunities
The success and continuation of the programs our kids love can only happen with your support. Consider being a volunteer.
Membership – The membership committee is responsible for running a drive for new members at the start of the school year, as well as reporting our numbers to RI PTA on a monthly basis.
Book Fair – The Scholastic Book Fair is a weeklong event held in both the Fall and Spring that gives children and families the opportunity to purchase books at the school.
Bake Sale – The Bake Sale, a fundraiser, is held on Columbus Day weekend at the Scituate Art Festival.
Books are Marvelous (BAM) – BAM is a program that was developed from Reading is Fundamental (RIF) where children are given the opportunity to choose a free book for their reading pleasure.
Walk-a-thon – The Walk-a-thon is a FUNdraiser held twice a year in the Fall and Spring. The walk-a-thon is an opportunity for the students to go outdoors and get some exercise while walking and participating in fun activity stations.
Halloween – Trunk or Treat is an opportunity for families to show their creative and artistic side. Participants, safely parked on school grounds, will decorate the trunks of their automobiles in a family friendly way allowing the kids to trick or treat in a safe environment.
Holiday Shoppe – The Holiday Shoppe is an event held during school hours that provides an opportunity for students to shop for gifts for family and friends during the holiday season.
Family Bingo – Bingo Night is a family event held in the Spring that allows students and adults to compete for prizes and enjoy refreshments.
Girls’ Event – The Girls’ Event, also known as Ladies’ Choice, is an evening out for female students and the adult of their choice. The events planned could range from a dinner dance or roller skating to a picnic or a movie night.
Boys' Event – The Boys’ Event, also known as Boys’ Choice, is an evening out for male students and the adult of their choice. The events planned could range from bowling or a ball game or an athletic complex.
Hope Enrichment Program (HEP) – The HEP program, run twice a year in the Fall and Spring, is an after school program that gives students and opportunity to take part in a sport, cooking, dance, arts and crafts, and nature adventures, just to name a few. The program runs as 4 to 6 week sessions.
Staff Appreciation – Staff Appreciation Week, celebrated the first week of May each year, is an opportunity to let the Hope Teachers and Staff know how special we think they are. Luncheons and gifts are planned for their enjoyment.
Bus Driver & Monitor Appreciation – Bus Driver & Monitor Appreciation Day, celebrated in the first week of April each year, is an opportunity to thank the Bus Drivers and Monitors for transporting our kids safely to school through the year. Breakfast is planned for their enjoyment.
Hospitality – The Hospitality Chairperson is responsible for providing refreshments for school events such as Open House, Art Night, Kindergarten Graduation and Fifth Grade Graduation.
Box Tops / Labels for Education – Box Tops for Education and Labels for Education are national programs that give money to schools for the labels we mail in for redemption.
Reflections – Reflections is an art contest sponsored by National PTA that encourages students to create an original work of art in the categories of dance choreography, film production, music composition, literature, photography and visual arts.
Young Authors – Young Authors is a program that encourages creative writing in our students. Each student is given a blank book in which to write a story about a topic of their choice. A celebration is held in the Spring to award medals to the participants and special pen sets to Veteran Authors (a child who has written a book for each of the years he/she has been enrolled at Hope, not including Kindergarten.)
Memory Book – Memory Book, also known as the Fifth Grade Yearbook, is given to each of the graduating students as a reminder of their time at Hope Elementary. Full of pictures from their time at Hope, the Memory Book is a special keepsake for students moving onto middle school.
Cultural Arts – The Cultural Arts program schedules educational and fun assemblies for students throughout the year. Themes are meant to augment lessons learned or bring to life in a stimulating fashion geography, history, science or character development. This committee also schedules the Fifth Grade trip to Trinity Rep.
